Mystery: The mysterious death of Mia Kanu

A college girl from Michigan died after being discovered unconscious and head-injured on the side of the road after a party, when video appeared to show her being thrown from a moving vehicle. After attending a house party with friends on June 3, Mia Kanu, a senior at Tennessee State University, was reportedly discovered on Providence Drive in Southfield, Michigan, at around 4:30 am.

There may or may not have been witnesses to Kanu’s passing. The fact that no one contacted 911 after discovering their loved one laying in the street also surprises her family. According to the Detroit Free Press, police have opened an investigation and are examining the death as a homicide.

According to authorities, Kanu already had “critical injuries” when she was discovered laying by the side of the road. “Something happened, and somebody knows something, and we just want those answers,” Kanu’s mother Bianca Vanmeter told FOX 2 Detroit.

According to Fox 2 Detroit, Kanu was seen on surveillance footage being either pushed out of the car or tumbling out onto Providence Drive near to Coach Apartments.

She was discovered by a bystander who requested help, and was then taken urgently to Ascension Providence Hospital in Southfield.

On June 5, Kanu passed away in the hospital. However, Kanu was kept alive for an extra three days on life support since she was an organ donor.

Police said they are unaware of how Kanu ended up on the road and how she passed away, which is why they have not yet published the terrifying CCTV footage. As a homicide, the matter is being examined.

“Anytime that there is an unnatural death, and especially concerning a young person, it is looked at as a homicide,” Southfield police spokesperson Sgt. Jared Womble told the publication.

“There weren’t any abnormalities. There is no deformity. Nothing of that size at that time would have implied any kind of assault, according to Womble, who spoke to CBS News Detroit. “As of right now, we don’t have any evidence that would suggest that another vehicle struck her.”

Police Still Uncertain

According to the authorities, who also indicated that the driver of the car she was thrown from is helping with the investigation, the cause of Kanu’s death has not been established. Police stated, “We are considering all options, including homicide.”

The police agency has not made any claims that Mia was forced from the car public.

Jeff Jagielski, the deputy police chief in Southfield, stated that an investigation is still ongoing.

He added, “It’s our understanding that the driver and another person got into a fight in the parking lot of the apartment complex they had just left.

But Kanu’s family is crushed, and her mother, Bianca Vanmeter, is frantic for details regarding her daughter’s tragic and enigmatic passing.

“Something happened, and somebody knows something, and we just want those answers,” she said to Fox 2. “If they could simply explain what really occurred, why they didn’t go back for her, and why they didn’t do more to aid her. Really, I would like to know that.

“I want to know what really happened, and if they were with friends, why wouldn’t they call 911?” Vanmeter spoke with WXYZ.

Kanu belonged to the TSU.

According to the Free Press, she was employed by the Agriculture Department and had previously cared for animals on a farm before going home for the summer.

She was a veterinary technician at the Richland Animal Clinic in Tennessee. “Kanu was very passionate about educating pet owners about pet care,” clinic manager Dawn Elza told the site.

“She had big goals and dreams of having her own business and being a veterinarian,” the woman recalled. “She knew all the names and personalities of all the pet boarders who would board regularly with us.”

Vanmeter reported that her daughter had a passion for animals and had adopted a cat named Tails while attending TSU.

“I remember telling her when she got home from school, ‘Girl, this cat is raunchy,’ ” the mom said, chuckling.

“She loved it there (at TSU)” Vanmeter said. “She was already counting the days for when she could go back to school.”

In a touching video uploaded to Facebook, Vanmeter captured the ‘honor walk’ performed for Kanu inside a nearby hospital as staff members carried her into surgery to remove her organs for donation.

As Kanu was brought along the corridors toward the operation room, dozens of friends, family members, and medical personnel were lined up. Loud gospel music was playing in the background.

The college senior was lying on a hospital bed with a Hello Kitty blanket covering her, a Tennessee State banner, and a sign that said, “I am the storm.”
